Here I am, one week after getting back from our trip and I'm finally MAKING (don't really have it) time to sit down and do a post about it!
We've been really busy since getting back, I've been working extra to make up for my days off, so that is the main cause. Plus this past weekend was Mother's Day and we spent the WHOLE day outside working in my flower garden (photos of that to come!!).
We left for New York on April 30th and stayed until May 5th. A great time was had by all! :) Emery did really well on the plane out. Luckily we had no lay overs so it was a straight shot. Eric was waiting for us at the airport with a cute little camel stuffed animal that he got for Emery while in Ethiopia last month. Em loved it (and now sleeps with it in his crib!).
Saturday morning we got up and ate breakfast at the apartment then went down to the Brooklyn Bridge and walked it for awhile. It was a hot afternoon but we had a fun time doing that. We went down to the World Trade Center site, saw the Stock Exchange building, Statue of Liberty, etc. and then ate diner at a yummy Mexican restaurant. Funny story about that...they only had high-top tables so Emery got to sit on not one, but three high chairs so he would be able to reach the table!!
Sunday we woke up and went to church in Brooklyn, went to Eric and Sarah's apartment for a bit then headed to the Yankees game. It was a lot of fun. Emery slept through quite a bit of it, but I was thankful that he was able to take naps so easily in his stroller. After the Yankees game we went back to Brooklyn where we ate at a Thai restaurant for dinner. Just so you know, we found out Emery hates Thai food. ha. Patrick and I called it an early night and took Em back to the apartment so he could chill for awhile and take a bath before going to bed. On the way back to the apartment we stopped at a fancy chocolate shop and treated ourselves to a few amazing bite sized chocolates. I think they were almost $2 a piece! But, we were on vacation! :)
On Monday we spent the day in Manhattan. We met up with one of my childhood friends (and a bridesmaid in our wedding), Kellie, for lunch. She's lived in NYC for the past 3 years. It was so neat to catch up with her in person. After that we headed to Times Square, where Emery was able to ride his first Ferris Wheel inside the Toys R Us store. What a fun experience! We walked along the streets and took in the sights, made our way to Central Park and enjoyed playing there for awhile, and then we walked back along 5th Ave. to Rockefeller Plaza. There was a lot of walking but it sure was fun, especially since it was Patrick's first time in NYC. We had Brooklyn style pizza that night for dinner at Sarah and Eric's apartment.
Tuesday morning we took off on a bus from Colombia University that Eric takes to get to work. He works at the Lamont Campus of Colombia in Palisades, NY. It was really, really neat to see where he works in person instead of just hearing about it through him. We ate lunch together on his campus and toured his building. We also went down the road to visit Jane Herold Pottery. Each of us had to leave with something, her stuff was so beautiful. After the great trip out of the city, we went to the West Village and enjoyed yummy treats at Peanut Butter & Co. and had fun at the fountain in Washington Square Park. That evening we all went out for burgers at a little place in Brooklyn not far from our apartment.
Brooklyn Children's Museum was our last stop of the vacation on Wednesday morning before our flight left early that afternoon. It was so neat. Emery really had fun. There is a special section called Totally Tots for young toddlers with musical insuraments, water and sand activities, blocks, and art projects. We also saw some snakes, birds, and other animals in some really creative exhibits. Someday when we go to New York when he's a bit bigger I'd love to go back again!
Em didn't do as great on the flight home. He took a nap in the taxi on the way to the airport so he wanted nothing to do with sleeping again. So, for 3 hours we tried to keep him busy and sidetracked. It worked for the most part. :) At least he wasn't crying or screaming...just annoyed.
We had a really great time visiting Eric and Sarah. It was so much fun to go as a family and see the sights with Patrick and Emery. The last (and only) time I was in NYC it was just me by myself visiting Eric. It was a much needed break for all of us. Thanks to my brother Eric for taking off work and showing us around for a few days. :)

These photos really make me wish I lived in Manhattan. Or at least get on a plane and visit tomorrow :) Glad you had so much fun!
